Working Condition of a Pediatrician
The Voice of Toil: Nineteenth-Century British Writing about Work by David J. Bradshaw, One of the most recurrent and controversial subjects of nineteenth-century discourse was work. Many thinkers associated work with honest pursuit of doing good, not the curse accompanying exile from Eden but rather a "great gift of God". Sincerely undertaken work comprised a mission entailing a commitment to serve others and promote a better future for all. Satisfaction with what work could do for individuals had its counterbalance in the anger and dismay expressed at the conditions of those whom Robert Owen, in 1817, first called the "working class". What working-class people confronted both at the labor site and at their lodgings was construed as oppressive, and the misery of their lives became the subject of sentimental poetry, government report, popular fiction, and journalistic expose. Perhaps as heated as the discussion about conditions of lower-class workers was the conversation about separate spheres of work for men and women. This conversation, too, found its way into the literature and public discourse of the day. In The Voice of Toil, the editors have collected the central writings from a pivotal place and time, including poems, stories, essays, and a play that reflect four prominent ways in which the subject of work was addressed: Work as Mission, Work as Opportunity, Work as Oppression, and (Separate) Spheres of Work. The resulting anthology offers a provocative text for students of nineteenth-century British literature and history and a valuable resource for scholars.
Conditional Measures and Applications, Second Edition In response to unanswered difficulties in the generalized case of conditional expectation and to treat the topic in a well-deservedly thorough manner, M.M. Rao gave us the highly successful first edition of Conditional Measures and Applications. Until this groundbreaking work, conditional probability was relegated to scattered journal articles and mere chapters in larger works on probability. This second edition continues to offer a thorough treatment of conditioning while adding substantial new information on developments and applications that have emerged over the past decade. Conditional Measures and Applications, Second Edition clearly elucidates the subject, from fundamental principles to abstract analysis.
The Condition of the Working Class in England in 1844 - The Condition of the Working Class is the best-known work of Friedrich Engels, and in many ways still the best study of the working class in Victorian England. It was also Engels' first book, written during his stay in Manchester from 1842 to 1844. Internet art - Internet art is art or, more precisely, cultural production which uses the Internet as its primary medium and, more importantly, its subject, much like video art uses video as its medium - but is also very much about video, although many artists working with the Net view video as only a component in a Software Art or meta-art system, which is very much "about" code. Quoting a definition by Steve Dietz, former curator in new media at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis: Internet art projects are art projects ... Ore condition - In mathematics, the Ore condition in ring theory is a condition introduced by Oystein Ore, in connection with the question of extending beyond commutative rings the construction of a field of fractions, or more general localization of a ring. The left Ore condition reads that for a ring R, and any pair a, b of, the non-zero elements, the sets aR and bR should intersect in more than the element 0. Working women in Japan - After World War II, the fixed image of the Japanese woman has been that of the office lady, who becomes a housewife and a kyoiku mama after marriage. But a new generation of educated women is emerging, that is seeking a career as a working woman.
